YPO membership is intended to be available to individuals who hold the top position of a qualifying company or division and are directly responsible for all operations of the business or division. Titles representing this position may include President, Chairman of the Board, CEO, Managing Director, or Managing Partner.
Note: There may only be one member of YPO per qualifying company or qualifying division of a company.
A new application must be approved by YPO before the applicant reaches his or her 45th birthday. Exceptions may be made for new chapters only.
“Corporation,” as the term is used here, includes incorporated or limited business entities, partnerships and other forms of business organizations deemed, at the discretion of YPO’s Executive Committee, to be substantially equivalent to businesses incorporated under the laws of the appropriate legal jurisdiction. This definition also includes academic institutions, not-for-profit organizations and government entities. All corporations must be operating businesses not primarily generating passive income.
In addition to age and title, an applicant must be qualified by rules of corporate complexity established by the YPO Board. The candidate must meet one requirement from each category, meaning he or she must meet at least one “A” requirement and one “B” requirement below. In exceptional cases presented by currency devaluation or other circumstances, the corporation complexity criteria may be met in other ways.
In addition to age and title, an applicant must be qualified by rules of corporate complexity established by the YPO Board. The candidate must meet one requirement from each category, meaning he or she must meet at least one “A” requirement and one “B” requirement below.
The candidate must have at least 50 regular, full-time employees or the equivalent under his or her control. Persons engaged on a commission basis rather than straight salary are considered employees if they are permanently connected with the corporation and receive their principal livelihood there from. Seasonal employees are not included in YPO’s employee definition.
The total compensation of all employees, excluding the compensation of the candidate, must exceed USD2,000,000 and a 15 employee minimum.

Please note: These are minimum requirements. Individual YPO chapters may require additional criteria. In addition, membership criteria used in the application must be certified by an outside auditing firm or other approved independent third party. Only externally certified public accountants, chartered accountants or lawyers/attorneys are approved as independent third parties. Please note that individuals on the prospective YPO member company’s staff, regardless of title, are not authorized to certify the membership criteria.

In order to qualify for membership, your company must meet the minimum membership criteria for payroll and revenue. It is not necessary to give the exact payroll or revenue amount, but you do need to state that your company meets the minimum criteria.For example, if using the sales/service revenue criteria, the gross annual sales revenue minimum is currently set at USD12 million. If your company is at or above that number, you can simply state the USD12 million rather than your actual revenues. The same can be done for the criteria for a financial institution or agency-type business or if using enterprise value to qualify.
A financial institution is defined as a bank or credit union. Businesses such as asset management firms and financial advisors are defined as financial services and should list the amount of revenue received from managing their client’s assets.
YPO will keep all applicant company information strictly confidential. The chapter chair, chapter membership officer and chapter administrator have access to the application but the information is not shared with any other members of the chapter. The Membership team shall not disclose this information without obtaining the applicant’s prior written consent to anyone other than the officers named above.

A third-party verification is required prior to joining YPO to authenticate that the applicant meets the quantitative membership criteria necessary for joining the organization.The information verified is the applicant’s job title, the number of employees and the annual compensation of those employees and the company sales/turnover or the enterprise value of the qualifying company.A third party is defined as the qualifying company’s CPA, chartered accountant, independent auditor or another external qualified source as approved by the YPO Board.

YPO membership dues are determined each year by the YPO Board of Directors. Chapters typically have their own additional dues and fee structures as determined by each chapter’s executive committee. For the current fiscal year (1 July – 30 June), YPO dues are set at USD3,375 and are pro-rated on a monthly basis. There is also a one-time initiation fee equal to that of the full annual dues amount. Chapter dues are in addition to the amounts listed above and the amounts vary by chapter.
You must first be a member of YPO in order to belong to YPO Gold. The criteria for joining YPO Gold is that you are at least 45 years of age and have been a YPO member in good standing for at least three years (excluding any grace period).
Meeting the specific quantitative requirements does not automatically guarantee admittance into YPO. There are other important, less easily defined requirements that also need to be met. These are qualitative in nature and are at the discretion of the current chapter’s executive committee.
If you designate on the membership application that you were referred by a YPO or YPO Gold member or by a specific chapter, your application will be placed with the referring chapter or with the chapter to which the referring member belongs or is suggesting.
If you are not already speaking to a specific chapter, your application will be placed with the closest geographic chapter to your business address.
Yes, if there is another chapter in the local geographic area, your application can be reassigned to that chapter for consideration, or in areas where regional chapters exist, you may also be considered for membership in the regional chapter.
Prospect applications can be reassigned from one chapter to another based on the request of the candidate. If a prospect relocates during the membership process, it is recommended you contact the chapter that you are being considered by and let them know the circumstances. Often the local chapter can refer you to another chapter in the area where you are relocating. Once you complete a membership application, it will be reviewed by a YPO membership development manager. If all quantitative criteria is met, the application will be forwarded to a local chapter for their consideration. You should receive initial contact from either YPO or from a local chapter within approximately two weeks of the date you completed the application.On average, the membership process takes six months to complete. Once you have spoken to a local chapter there are a series of meetings you will attend (this process is chapter-specific). The process can also be based in part by the candidate’s schedule.
If a local chapter does not initiate contact within the appropriate timeframe your application can be reassigned to another chapter. There are numerous reasons where this might occur. A few examples are:
If there is another chapter in your local vicinity, the application will be placed with that chapter. If no other local chapter exists, your application can be placed with a regional chapter. During the final stages of the membership process, you will be asked to provide a third-party certification. The invitation to join YPO will be valid 90 days from the date of this certification being received and approved by YPO.
Members in good standing may transfer from chapter to chapter within YPO. The local chapter will decide how to handle the transfer. Some require a transferring member to go through the same screening process as a new prospective member, while other chapters simply accept the transferring member.If you cannot meet the participation criteria at the local chapter, you will be referred to a regional chapter (a chapter that serves a larger geographic boundary) where the participation requirements are less than those of the local chapter.
Once you join a chapter, you will receive an invitation from YPO to participate in a new member call. This call is a personalized one-on-one conversation designed to welcome you to the organization, explain the benefits of YPO and walk you through our website. After the call, your membership integration will be handled by the local chapter.
