Mariano Gonzalez

Advisor at Emergent Ventures, Northeastern U.S.

Mariano Gonzalez serves as an Advisor at Emergent Ventures, where he focuses on growth equity investments in lower middle market and emerging companies with a unique enironmental, social and governance (ESG) edge.

Gonzalez serves on the Board of Learning Upgrade, a San Diego based EdTech remote learning company and winner of the 2019 X-PRIZE foundation competition; he also advises AutoCognita, a Hong Kong-based language education company and ATOM360, a health care IT startup company in India.  The connecting thread of these companies is their desire to solve the world’s toughest problems.

He is a member of YPO and most recently served as CEO of Project Laundry, a P- backed company in the New York area. He was a Sloan Fellow at London Business School, where he received a Master’s degree in leadership and strategy. His areas of research were industry structures, the generation and management of strategies for growth and strategic innovation.

Over the past 20 years, Mariano has worked in business development, strategic planning, investment banking and private equity in the U.S. and Latin America. He is experienced in mergers and acquisitions, developing aggressive growth strategies, multi-business unit corporate strategy and business development.

Prior to LBS, he was a Principal at WAMEX Private Equity in Mexico City, Head of Latin America Banking at William Blair in Chicago, where he started the Lat Am Practice, and CFO and Head of mergers and aquisitions and buisness development at Organizacion Corona, a multinational Colombian company, leading its effort to internationalize and grow exponentially.  Gonzalez began his global career with PwC in Houston, Texas, where he worked across the Americas in the Financial Advisory Services division.

He has served on the board of the Boys and Girls Club of Chicago and the EDUCA foundation in Mexico City.

Gonzalez received his MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, USA, and his undergraduate degree from Trinity University. He is fluent in English, Portuguese and Spanish and enjoys fencing, basketball and soccer.  He lives in New York City, New York, USA.
